West LA Kendo Dojo は1952年に正式に設立されましたが、現在の稽古の拠点であるソーテル日本学院では1930年代から剣道教育が行われていました。
第二次世界大戦中の差別と迫害により、日系アメリカ人は剣道の稽古を一時中止せざるを得ませんでした。
しかし長い歴史を経ても、現在では国籍を問わず多くの人々が竹刀を交え、その伝統を受け継いでいます。

The West LA Kendo Dojo was officially established in 1952, but kendo instruction had been taking place at the current training location, the Japanese Institute of Sawtelle, since the 1930s.
During World War II, discrimination and persecution forced Japanese Americans to temporarily halt their kendo practice.
However, despite this long and challenging history, today many people, regardless of nationality, continue to cross swords with shinai and carry on this tradition.
